Simple Ways to Incorporate Wholegrains into Your Daily Diet

Many have the misconception that there are no benefits of eating wholegrains. However, that is not the case. Packed with essential nutrients, wholegrains offer a powerhouse of benefits that contribute significantly to a healthier lifestyle.

How, you ask? Rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, incorporating wholegrains in your diet could bring a wide range of benefits, from bolstering heart health to mitigating the risk of diabetes and certain cancers.

Furthermore, wholegrains help with weight management, as it promotes the feeling of fullness, helping to reduce the risk of overeating, which is one contributing factor of weight gain. This makes the role of wholegrains in maintaining and improving health undeniable.

Convinced to try wholegrains but don’t know where to start? Here are some tips to help you with it!

1. You can start by introducing wholegrain products gradually into your diet. For starters, you could mix brown and white rice or combine wholegrain noodles with normal noodles.

This is to slowly increase the exposure and intake of wholegrains for your body to get used to as you introduce wholegrains into your diet. This also helps you get used to the different tastes and textures of wholegrains!

2. You can enhance the taste of whole grains with your favourite herbs, spices, fruits, and nuts. For example, you can start with a bowl of oatmeal in the morning! Instead of having it plain, top it off with some strawberries, honey, and cinnamon powder.

This not only makes them tastier, but also helps you be more accustomed to the intake of wholegrains, making the transition from refined to wholegrains easier and more enjoyable too!

3. Pay attention to the order of the ingredients list. The order of ingredients corresponds to the total percentage that ingredient makes up in the product. Ensure that the first few ingredients are wholegrains such as brown rice, wheat flour or wholegrain flour. This means that the main bulk of the product is made of these ingredients.

However, do take note that foods labeled as ‘multi-grain’, ‘100% wheat’, or ‘organic flour’ may not contain any wholegrain. So, double-check the ingredients list instead of looking purely at the packaging labels!
